Job Description Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate a variety of machines, make and assembly various fixtures and/or tools as required. Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan the sequences of operations for fabricating tools, plates, fixtures, and otherwise shape parts to the dimensional tolerances as needed. Visualize what, how; the project will look at completion. Read various gauges to include calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, etc.
Responsibilities: Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machines such as: mills, lathes, jig bores, grinders; outside and inside diameter grinders. Conduct test fits/runs of completed tooling or fixturing and make adjustments as necessary. Repair gauges, tooling, and fixtures as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Mechanically sound, must have knowledge of machine tools, design, uses, and how to repair them. Must have design abilities to include the principles involved in technical drawings, blueprints, and models. Strong in mathematics to include; shop, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their application.
Experience and Skill Requirements Mechanically sound, must have knowledge of machine tools, design, uses, and how to repair them. Must be able stoop, bend, stand for long periods of time and lift up to 65 lbs. Eye protection, hearing protection, and steel toed shoes are required. Work areas must be cleaned on a daily basis.
